Promoting excellence and leadership in the government finance profession

Robert L. Ehlers, Sr. MnGFOA Scholarship Program - National Conference

Starting in 2010, the Minnesota Government Finance Officers Association (MnGFOA), along with Ehlers will award a scholarship to a MnGFOA active member for the purpose of funding their registration to the annual national GFOA conference.

The scholarship program honors Robert L. Ehlers, Sr. who passed away in February, 2010. Mr. Ehlers formed Ehlers & Associates, an independent financial advisory firm serving public sector clients throughout the Midwest, in 1955. We pride ourselves in assisting all levels of local government and school districts in finding the financial resources they need to build the communities they envision.

Our Company would like to pay tribute to Mr. Ehlers for the contributions he made and his commitment to education in the world of public finance. On March 19, 2010 our Board of Directors authorized creation of the "Robert L. Ehlers, Sr. Governmental Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Scholarship Fund." Our desire and commitment is to annually fund one registration fee for the National GFOA conference for one GFOA member each in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Tuition/Fee Scholarship
The scholarship will reimburse the registration fee for one applicant. It does not include coverage of items such as lodging, mileage or other out-of-pocket costs not covered by the registration fee.

Eligibility
All active members of the MnGFOA in good standing are eligible for this scholarship. Any qualifying member may receive one scholarship per lifetime.

Scholarship Guideline
The applicant should hold a current position in a state of local government, school district, special district, special authority or regional/metropolitan council. The position may be elected or appointed. The applicant must be a member in good standing. It is preferred that applicants that, but for the scholarship, would otherwise not be able to attend the conference, apply. However, all members in good standing are encouraged to apply.

Determination of the annual scholarship recipient will be made by the MnGFOA Board using the following criteria:

  • Active member in good standing
  • Experience
  • Financial need
  • Other criteria the Board may desire
